چکیده

This paper deals wit11 the design of a continuous techhology for the microbial simultaneous synthesis of fat and protein from blackstrap molasses. The experimental results of the test carried out with the batch cultive method give values of specific growth rate for the biomass synthesis in the range of 0.34 hr -' and for the fats synthesis stage of 0.1 hr-' . The continuous culture method used allows to define the yield for the fat synthesis being at the level of 15% and for the protein biomass content in the range of 1986. , The influence of the P205 content of the broth and the oxygen transfer rate were listed givlng no significant reply over the yield of fat in the test range. INTRODUCTION The world consumption of oils and fats excluding butter and other fats associated to certain foods is around 50 million tons per year. More than 80% of this figure correspond to the oil obtained from oleaginous seeds, animal fats and fish oil ) cover the rest. On the other hand, the analysis of the more recent trend of demand for more products in the world market show an unstable behavior depending on the final utilization; in addition to this situation a strongly rising tendency of the price is shown for some products. It is perfectly possible to expect that the rising tendency of prices will become steady in the years to come, being impossible to predict any stability of the market due to the close depeddence between the crops condition and the availability of the products. ( ,;? Due to the above mentioned reason, the future situation for those countries which depend on the import to cover their needs will become rather difficult and it seems timely to make this question: will it be possible for the microorganisms to supply a viableialternative as a fat source for human and/or animal use? Those factors which have boosted the use of single cell organisms as a reliable source of protein are practically the same with those which could support their use

The Effect of Adding Blackstrap Molasses to a Lamb-fattening Ration'

Considerable interest was manifested in the substitution of blackstrap molasses for a part, or all, of the grain in livestock rations during the drought years of 1934 and 1936. Ferrin ^ used molasses with corn and oats in fattening hogs and found that oats and molasses had a comparatively high value as compared with corn and molasses. Thompson and HilHer ^ experienced similar results in feeding...

Analysis of extracted and volatile components in blackstrap molasses feed as candidate house fly attractants.

House flies are a ubiquitous insect that have the potential to spread many diseases to humans and livestock. Managing house fly populations is accomplished by having desirable baits, traps, and killing agents. Most house fly baits are designed for outdoor use or limited indoor use, and have a foul odor that is not conducive to food preparatory and dining areas. Blackstrap molasses has long been...

Efficiency of extraction of nematodes by flotation-sieving using molasses and sugar and by elutriation.

Blackstrap molasses was studied as an economical substitute for sucrose in the preparation of an extracting solution for removal of nematodes from soil by the flotation-sieving technique. The maximal number of nematodes extracted from soil was obtained with molasses solutions with specific gravity values in the range 1.000-1.073. Results of studies on the relation between size of soil sample an...

Kinetics of the continuous alcoholic fermentation of blackstrap molasses.

The very important problems concerning fermentation kinetics have only recently received some attention (Calam et al., 1951; Gaden, 1955a, b, 1956; Borzani, 1957; Kosin, 1957). In the particular case of continuous alcoholic fermentation, a great number of papers have been published (Alzola, 1940, 1945; Bilford et al., 1942; Owen, 1948; Asai et al., 1952, 1953; Mariller et al., 1952; Borzani, 19...

Production of citric acid by Aspergillus niger using cane molasses in a stirred fermentor

The present investigation deals with the kinetics of submerged citric acid fermentation by Aspergillus niger using blackstrap molasses as the basal fermentation media. A laboratory scale stirred fermentor of 15-L capacity having working volume of 9-L was used for cultivation process and nutritional analysis. Among the 10 stock cultures of Aspergillus niger, the strain GCBT7 was found to enhance...
